It has been said that “too much of a good thing can be bad,” and the New York Rangers are experiencing that first hand. There has been much to do about the lack of depth at the center position. There has been mention of the top four defensemen, and there have been rumors of Nick Holden being on the move. While Tyler Bozak has been mentioned as a target, and places like Edmonton have been named as potential destinations, one fact remains; the New York Rangers cannot keep Nick Holden.
Since the Rangers traded away Derek Stepan and lost Oscar Lindberg to expansion, it was clear GM, Jeff Gorton was going to have to address this via free agency or trade. Read more

When the list of free agents came out at the end of the NHL season, one name that was thought to be a good fit for the Blueshirts was Joe Thornton. Jumbo Joe would have been perfect for what the Rangers needed: a center with plenty of leadership, is good in the faceoff circle, plays a 200-foot game and will put up points.

Just a few weeks ago, the Rangers looked like they were heading to acquire center, Mike Santorelli from Toronto. Poof! That went away. As of yesterday, they looked like they might acquire forward, Daniell Winnik from the Leafs and that vanished too. Such is life in the NHL near the deadline. Read more
