Jesper Fast is the New York Rangers version of a Swiss Army Knife, he can virtually do it all. This summer, Fast was a headline several times for the team. First, as we reported back on May 16, it was revealed that Fast would be out most likely until November due to hip surgery. Then, there was the risk that the Vegas Golden Knights could pick him in the expansion draft. After that, he signs a nice three-year contract that is both club and player friendly. Finally, he picks his new number for the season after the Rangers announced his number 19 was being retired in honor of Rangers legend Jean Ratelle.

With the Rangers preparing to retire the iconic number 19 of franchise great Jean Ratelle on February 25, 2018, it’s time to discuss whose sweater should be the next to join Ratelle’s in the rafters at MSG.
Messier. Leetch. Graves. Howell. Bathgate. Richter. Gilbert. Giacomin. These names will forever hang in the rafters at Madison Square Garden and next season there will be another name joining them: Ratelle. Jean Ratelle is one of the all-time greats in New York Rangers and National Hockey League history. He put up some eye-popping numbers during his time on both Blueshirts and the Boston Bruins. He was a part of one of the most famous lines in NHL history. Ratelle is not often spoken about in the same way as Messier, Leetch, and others are but he truly deserves his day in the sun.
The Rangers have announced that the center of the GAG (Goal A Game) Line will have his jersey retired next season. Jean Ratelle‘s number 19 will join his longtime linemate Rod Gilbert to the Garden’s rafters. Read more
