Hello again! @NHLRumorsDaily back with the highly awaited, pre-FA rumor roundup. Since there’s been an outcry on twitter to hear all of the latest info, I’ll skip my usual intro and get straight to the rumors, so here we go! Read more
The Rangers have traded Antti Raanta and Derek Stepan to Arizona, as well as Oscar Lindberg being selected by Vegas, Jeff Gorton now has a lot of cap space to complete his roster for next season. But with these moves, the Rangers have lost two centermen and a backup goalie that need replacing. Add in Dan Girardi’s buyout, and Gorton will have to find all the right pieces to fill in those gaps.
The Rangers have traded forward Derek Stepan and backup goaltender Antti Raanta to the Arizona Coyotes for young defenseman Anthony DeAngelo and the 7th overall pick in tonight’s entry draft.
Over the last week or so, Rangers center Derek Stepan’s name has come up prominently in trade rumors, which have been confirmed by many of the most clued in hockey insiders. Then, six days ago, Rangers insider Larry Brooks sent out this tweet:
Rangers looking to make a move?
The NHL trade deadline is Wednesday, March 1st and the Blueshirts have been active scouting and calling teams leading up to it. Top on their list is a right handed defenseman to play top or second pair minutes. Read more
We should all know the story by now…things are bad in San Jose, especially if you’re one of the older players like Patrick Marleau. Drew Doughty of the Los Angeles Kings scores both team Canada goals, which included the overtime winner 2-1.
Tight Close Game
This game lived up to the hype of being a close tight game. The top two teams in group B brought out the best in each other, and for awhile, it seemed like it honestly could go either way. Yet, with the Finnish only having 7 shots the rest of the game, just showed how defensively sound the Canadian team was going to be during the game.
Lack of Offense for Canada
Canada has held its own just fine during the round robin stages, but their lack of offense will hurt them in the later rounds. Avalanche forward Matt Duchene has blamed it on the bigger ice surface, but we see other teams with NHL players succeed. Just look at the United States. The offense needs to happen and happen now.
Rick Nash Update
Rick Nash only played 7:18 today with 2 shots, and only played sporadically throughout the game. He was involved with a no goal call, after his stick was clearly over the crossbar of the Finnish goal. Other than that he sporadically on the ice.
