Sweden asserted their dominance over the Finns in a 2-1 game, that looked closer than it actually was. Sweden dominated much of the game with their top line of Daniel Sedin, Niklas Backstrom, and Loui Eriksson as they created quality scoring chances against the Finns who were without Tukka Rask due to an illness. The Finns turned to Dallas Stars goaltender Kari Lehtonen, who played well especially after being named the starter moments before the game. Questions will haunt Finland with all-world goalie Antti Niemi on the bench.

Finland manged to strike first off of a Olli Jokinen bad angle shot that beat Lundqvist early in the second period. Finland would manage no more as they couldn’t get many quality scoring chances against Lundqvist and the Swedish defense. Loui Eriksson and Erik Karlsson both scored later in the period for Sweden. Eriksson off a tic-tac-toe play and Karlsson with a blast.

Ultimately special teams decided the game today as Sweden scored on one of their two power plays and managed to keep the Finns 0-5 on their chances, including a 5-3 during the second. Sweden now awaits the winner of the USA vs. Canada contest at 12PM EST.
