Vigneault (NYR)

Every season Alain Vigneault tinkers with his line combinations until he finds what he feels will work for the long term. From year to year though, AV alters how his team creates its offense. What will Alain Vigneault have the Rangers doing this season to create scoring chances? Will there be a combination of his first two seasons in New York or will he implement a whole different scheme? The Rangers have gotten their roster down to 23 players. It was announced today on the team’s web site that the Rangers waived Raphael Diaz and Jayson Megna. Megna will probably clear and go to Hartford while a veteran Defenseman like Diaz will no doubt be claimed. The Bruins are starved for veteran help on the back-end and are likely to claim him. This seasons cap constraints make $700K veteran defenseman valuable. Read more

The New York Rangers enter the 15/16 season as one of the favorites to win the Metropolitan Division and possibly the Eastern Conference. They have a large amount of their core players from last season still on the active roster, so there are less question marks than say Pittsburgh or Washington. However, there are still some spots that need to be worked out in camp and as a result questions loom. Who will be the Rangers X-factor this season? Who or what will be the reason they sink or swim? Over the last 10 seasons two year bridge or gap contracts became popular among general managers around the NHL. Glen Sather was no different, force feeding good young players coming off their Entry Level Contracts these two year bridge deals, only to have to pay them big dollars when they put up big numbers in two years. After a season in which a team doesn’t meet expectations there’s always going to be speculation as to how and why they failed to reach their goal. It doesn’t matter if you’re talking about the LA Kings or the NY Rangers, neither reached their goal of a Stanley Cup and the Kings didn’t even make the playoffs. Read more

In 2014/15 Rick Nash came out of the gate swinging. He led the Rangers in goals (42) and points (69). He was determined to help the Rangers get back to the Cup Final.
